In Zone 8 and higher plant bulbs in late December or January for spring bloom providing bulbs have been chilled at 40-45°F (a refrigerator works well) for 10 weeks prior to planting. Light:  Tulips grow best in full sun in the North and partial shade in the South. Soil:  Plant tulip bulbs, pointed end up, in well-drained soil with a pH between 6 and 7. Taylors Bulbs in Holbeach, Lincolnshire, normally harvests around 2.5 million cut daffodil  flowers  in the average year. Due to a lack of pickers, the firm expects to harvest just a third of that quantity in 2021. Kevin Haynes, horticulture manager, blames this on the lack of pickers. He says numbers of seasonal workers coming to the  UK  to pick flowers from abroad have shrunk. In their firm this has meant going from a “normal” number of 150 to just 30 this year. According to her social media, First Lady Melania Trump restored the original diamond-shaped hedges and installed new rose bushes as well as improvements to infrastructure. It also has a large green grass center that you could even put golf balls on. Another feature has new limestone pathways that provide access for Americans with Disabilities. Gone are the iconic crabapple trees that lined the wall that was put in by First Lady Jackie Kennedy in 1962 with Bunny Mellon’s design.
